RENCOURT KING BED

A special part of the Winterthur Library is the Joseph Downs Collection of Manuscripts and Printed Ephemera, which includes the German Toy Catalogue (Colorirte Zeichnungen). The catalogue features 135 color illustrations of mechanical toys, board games, pull toys, dolls, and miniature furniture. Published in Nuremberg, Germany (1818-40), the illustrations reflect the most up-to-date taste in furniture, as seen in the gracefully curved side rails of an Empire-style bedstead.

Hickory Chair Company's artists have adapted a design from the German Toy Catalogue to create the 21st-century bed.
